Swift is entangled in a bitter feud with her former label Big Machine Records, which was founded by Scott Borchetta and later acquired by Scooter Braun.

As with many recording artists, Taylor Swift does not own the master recordings to her older albums. Swift’s work-around to this situation is to re-record most of the music she made under her former label. This would then give her control of the new master recordings. The problem is, Swift is not legally allowed to do the re-recordings until November of 2020.

Big Machine is stating that Swift’s performance at The AMA’s would legally constitute a re-recording before the November 2020 date.
