Blackground Records, is a now defunct record label owned by Jomo and Barry Hankerson which folded in 2009 after the label’s last release, Timbaland Presents Shock Value II. The label and publishing company also owned by Hankerson has been holding hostage albums from major artists like Aaliyah (Hankerson’s niece), Timbaland, Tank,JoJo and Toni Braxton from joining the streaming revolution. The reason is still unclear, but most believe they are holding out for a bigger piece for his platinum-selling roster of albums.


Barry Hankerson took to Twitter to announce that Aaliyah’s full discography will be available on major streaming services on her birthday, January 16, 2020.
