On Big Mouth, Jenny Slate played Missy Foreman-Greenwald, right.

A debate arises among social media after American Actress Jenny Slate stated she will no longer be the voice actor for her character ”Missy” on Netflix’s show Big Mouth. Jenny plays a mixed African American girl on the show and felt that because she herself is not African American she should step down from her position. On Instagram she issued out an apology and explains why she feels that she should not continue to be the voice actor for this character.

This began a heated debate on twitter with one user saying that it doesn’t matter if you are voice acting, in a cartoon a dog isn’t played by a dog.

Big Mouth creators: Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett have all came out with a joint apology and promise to recast the character “Missy” with an African American voice actor

I can’t agree at all. Should only disabled actors play the role of a disabled person. Should only blind actors play the role of a blind person. Where would Brian De Palma’s Scarface be without Al Pacino’s over the top Cuban accented druglord? Should they have cast an actual Cuban national? It’s called acting for a reason!
